Enabling professional care workers to
support older people with hearing loss
Neglecting Hearing Loss in Care Homes is Costing Lives:
Engage's New White Paper Demands Change
Despite at least 80% of residents experiencing
hearing loss, their hearing needs are often
overlooked in care homes.
JDA is leading the way in bringing about the
change that is critically needed. Since 2016, we
have trained over 3,500 care management and
sta昀昀 in 35 care homes to understand and meet the
needs of their residents with hearing loss.
Now we are incredibly proud to announce the
release of our powerful new White Paper
‘Hearing Loss in Care Homes — A Call to Action’.
The paper highlights the widespread impact of
unaddressed hearing needs — from increased
risks of dementia and falls to social isolation,
depression, and avoidable distress.
It sets out a comprehensive set of evidencebased recommendations to enhance care
provision and person-centred communication for
people living with hearing loss, and particularly
those who also have dementia.
JDA’s Engage Team — Padraic Garrett and Andrew Goodwin — created the White
Paper in collaboration with Nightingale Hammerson and Care England, the leading
representative body for independent adult social care providers
