TRIBUTE TO OUR JDA ANGEL,
MELODY MOSS
Sue Cipin writes:
All of us in the JDA family are
devastated by the tragic passing of our
beloved “angel” Melody – also known
to us as “Tinkermel”.
Melody and her brother Jeremy grew up at JDA,
regularly coming to our community centre in
Cazenove Road with their parents, Lorraine and
the late Kenneth Silver.
Melody’s dream was to work at JDA, and she was
over the moon when we asked her to join our sta昀昀
team 15 years ago. From that day on, working
sel昀氀essly and always with heart and humour, she
transformed many Deaf people’s lives and lit up
our world.
As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), Melody grew up
truly understanding Deaf people’s needs. When
she went into battle with the authorities on behalf
of her clients, she would not give up until she had
achieved the best for them. Thanks to her, many
Deaf people in our community who 昀椀rst came to
JDA in crisis — struggling with issues including
mental health, homelessness, poverty, neglect and
abuse — accessed the support they needed and
are now leading safe, stable, happy lives.
Melody was enormously kind-hearted,
compassionate and always hilarious!
Having her around was truly joyful!
Melody passed away far too soon, aged 46. She
left all of us at JDA with a hole that we feel to our
very core. We miss her friendship, her beaming
smile and her optimism. We are here always for
her lovely Mum Lorraine, her brother Jeremy and
for her beautiful family — Jon, Harry and Libby.

She will forever inspire us to look on
the bright side and to give our heart
and soul to the people we support
and love. As some of her closest
friends said: “Be more Mel”.
