JDA’s pioneering new project will:
■ Improve community attitudes towards
hearing loss
■ Enable Jewish people with hearing loss to
■
access the welfare and support services
they need
■
and be more included in synagogue, work
and family life.
By delivering free expert training, guidance and
support to Jewish community organisations across
the UK, we will enable the Jewish community to
become an enlightened, inclusive community
where people are no longer embarrassed to
admit to hearing loss because they know their
needs will be understood and met.
Hatzola Ambulance Services, the United
Synagogue, Jewish Blind and Disabled,
Paperweight, Schonfeld Square and Jewish Care’s
Helpdesk, Social Work and Befriending services
have already signed up for our help.
Kevin Cuddon, Clinical Lead at Hatzola
Northwest says:
“When JDA told me over half of people over 55 have
hearing loss, I realised we need to take action.
We must be able to identify when someone has
a hearing loss and communicate e昀昀ectively with
them about their health.
JDA has given us hearing ampli昀椀cation kits to carry
on board our ambulances and is training all our
volunteers, so we can communicate clearly with
everyone in an emergency.”
Sara called Hatzola emergency services when
she experienced heart palpitations. She is hard
of hearing but, thanks to the equipment JDA had
donated and trained their paramedics to use, she
could understand Eli perfectly as he reassured her
that her heart was strong, and it could have been
a touch of indigestion.
Eli left her with a little friendly advice:
“Maybe a little less chopped liver next time!”
