Brenda’s Living Her Best Life at 85!
At JDA, we do all we can to look after
our precious older Deaf and Deafblind
members and keep them supported
in their own home where they are
happiest for as long as possible.
The delightful sta昀昀 were eager to learn how to
make the adjustments needed to include Brenda
in all aspects of her new life so that she could
settle in and feel at home – starting with a visit
from Brenda’s Support Worker, Lisa, who trained
the sta昀昀 in Deaf Awareness and basic British Sign
Language (BSL).
There are no care homes nearby
for Deaf sign language users, so
it’s always a worry when they do
eventually need to move into care.
We are still there for Brenda, and she loves her
weekly visits from one of JDA’s volunteers.
She continues to enjoy JDA’s regular Happy
Mondays arts and crafts club and Wednesday
Club where she can meet up with her friends and
where she always participates enthusiastically in
the talks, fun and games, activities and outings.
We always know she’s feeling on top of the world
when her eyes sparkle and she does her happy
dance — hula hula style!
Between the ongoing love and care of her children,
JDA and Rowan Weald Care Home, Brenda is
thriving!
When Lisa reminds Brenda she’s 85, she giggles
and says: “Really? I feel so young!”

When the time came that our lovely Brenda, 85,
needed the full-time care that only a care home
can give, we helped her children 昀椀nd the ideal
place in Rowan Weald Care Home.
They welcomed her with open arms. From the
moment she moved in, she called it her hotel and
has been loving her life there!
