COUNCILLOR DANNY RICH BECOMES MAYOR OF BARNET
— AND CHOOSES JDA AS HIS CHARITY!
Councillor Rabbi Danny Rich has become the 61st
Mayor of Barnet, and JDA’s good friend Ingrid
Sellman represented us at the o昀케cial inauguration
on 20 May at Hendon Town Hall.
Danny is known to us as Senior Rabbi at Southgate
Progressive Synagogue and former Senior Rabbi
and Chief Executive of Liberal Judaism. He is
currently also a magistrate and a hospital chaplain.
He o昀케ciated at the wedding of JDA’s sta昀昀 member
Gabrielle Renée to Alina.
Whilst o昀昀ering our warmest congratulations to
the new Mayor, we are absolutely delighted that
the Jewish Deaf Association is one of his three
chosen charities for his Mayoral term! We couldn’t
be happier and look forward to a productive
collaboration over the coming year.
We have been delighted to welcome Rabbi Danny
many times to JDA — and we now look forward to him
visiting us as The Worshipful the Mayor — hopefully
along with the Mayoress, his wife Laura Lassman.

Ingrid tells us about
the inauguration:
“It was a very enjoyable event. The
ceremony with gowns and chains etc. was
great fun and the incoming Mayor’s speech
was heartfelt. Conservative councillors
wore their gowns (with pomp) while the
Labour councillors wore boutonnieres
(a red rose) on their left lapel — no gowns!
They clapped in Ezra Cohen, a new
councillor for Whetstone, who I had the
pleasure of speaking to afterwards.
I chatted with people from many di昀昀erent
community organisations. After a short
business meeting, we all enjoyed a
wonderful Reception.”
