He didn’t win it — he interpreted at the awards ceremony!
In his studio at home, there’s a big green screen
and optimal lighting. No more cumbersome 昀椀lm
cameras these days — he relies on his iPhone for
昀椀lming.
As he is so busy, he now contracts out the editing
and captioning. He checks every 昀椀lm before it is
released, to maintain his excellent standards.
Everything looks so professional on screen but,
behind the scenes, there can sometimes be
mishaps when Marcel is 昀椀lming in his home studio
— when his children interrupt him, or the family
dog manages to sneak in, vying for attention!
It is not a Monday-Friday 9-5 job. Marcel does
many assignments outside of the studio. He loves
football, so one of his favourite jobs was in his early
days when, for two years, he commuted regularly to
Newcastle to interpret the sports broadcasting.
In future, there will be greater visibility of BSL
signers at train stations, airports and major arenas.
Marcel plans to have workshops to bring in more
expertise in this area.
Thank you, Marcel, for sharing your invaluable work
journey with us at JDA.
