JDA New Year Greetings
New Year message from Trudy Kling, JDA Chairman
We had our moment of fame when Rose AylingEllis included the JDA in her BBC documentary
"Old Hands, New Tricks", showcasing us to the
nation and revealing what a truly inclusive and
welcoming community feels like. “I am taking
you to the JDA — one of my favourite places!” she
proclaimed. First TikTok, then TV… who knows,
maybe a movie next!
We have been painfully reminded during the year
that we still live in a world of rising antisemitism.
But, here at the JDA, we ensure that all Deaf
people are welcome, safe and respected. We will
always support Deaf people as one community.
As we approach the New Year, I am, as always, so
proud of all the JDA has achieved in the past year.
I echo Sue’s sentiments on the passing of Melody,
who was such an important part of the JDA family.
She will be remembered forever.
I would also like to add my congratulations to
Padraic and Andrew on their dedicated hard work
and launching of their White Paper. This will help
so many older people in care homes to enjoy a
better later life. They should be bursting with
pride. I know I am!
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters
— and legacies, which we could not do without —
we have been able to continue all our services,
and to develop new ones to broaden our reach
and impact. I thank everyone who has cared
enough to make a donation and leave a gift in
their Will.
There are never enough adjectives or thanks for
Sue and our sta昀昀 for the amazing and normally
unseen work they do. They are an exceptional
team doing an exceptional job.
Thanks also to our very special volunteers, who are
so important to us. You are appreciated more than
you will ever know.
Finally, our Board of Trustees have, as always, been
terri昀椀c. Thank you for continuing to be there for us.
My family join me in wishing you all a very happy,
healthy and safe 5786.
