HELLO FROM TRUDY KLING – CHAIR OF JDA
Hello Friends!
It's hard to believe that
it has been 23 years
since I had the privilege
to become the JDA
Chair. I suppose it was
in my DNA! I took over
from my Mum who,
in turn, had taken over from her father, Julius
Newman, who paved the way for what we have
now become — a base and second home for Deaf
and Deafblind people to live happy lives in the
broader community.
Every Wednesday, I put on my other hat and
become the o昀케cial JDA lunch lady. As a result,
I have got to know all the members in more ways
than one — for example, who likes breast of
chicken, who only wants the wide cut of salmon,
who hates peas, the diabetics (except when it
comes to ice cream!), gluten free etc. You know
who you are!!

I also thoroughly enjoy my weekly visits to Miriam
for a chat and game of scrabble. She's one tough
opponent!
I have weekly meetings with Sue to catch up on
thoughts, developments, bumps in the road,
solutions and a bit of essential girl talk!
We go on great outings, which are always fun and
a break from the daily routine.
Thanks to our brilliant team, these days out are
perfectly organised (no easy task!) for members,
sta昀昀, volunteers and me!
The 23 years have gone by in a 昀氀ash. I have no
doubt that Mum and Grandpa would be so proud
of what the JDA has become.
Until next time — take care!
Trudy
